There Is Hope for Yaupon Pier

After several months, the state of North Carolina has awarded the town of Oak Island a $500,000 grant to put toward purchasing the Yaupon Pier.
How exciting?!?!
The town is required to match the $500,000 grant.
Oak Island Mayor Johnie Vereen says the council has to vote before making any offer to the bank.

Red Drum Harvest Reopens With Restrictions

The NC Division of Marine Fisheries has reopened commercial red drum harvest. There are restrictions and commercial fishermen aren’t allowed to target red drum but fishermen are permitted to keep and sell up to four red drum per boat.

North Carolina Commercial Catches Down

On Wednesday, the North Carolina Division of Marine Fisheries posted an interesting news release about the decrease in amount of seafood caught by commercial fishermen in North Carolina. But, while the number of catches was down for 2007, the value of the seafood caught was higher than it was in 2006.
