On Wednesday, the North Carolina Division of Marine Fisheries posted an interesting news release about the decrease in amount of seafood caught by commercial fishermen in North Carolina. But, while the number of catches was down for 2007, the value of the seafood caught was higher than it was in 2006.
Louis Daniel, the director of the DMF believes the decline might be because of high fuels costs. Instead of targeting the lower value fish such as croaker, the fishermen are going after the fish that are worth more like wahoo and red grouper.
