Sometimes you just can’t buy a fish… and that’s how this weekend played out for me.
It was so nice outside all day on Friday that we decided to take the fly rods and head down the the ICW (intracoastal waterway) just after work. It was windy but sunny. We weren’t there for 30 minutes when Justin hooked into something. Mind you…we haven’t really caught anything on a fly rod down here. To our surprise it was a sea trout!! Not long after he caught another sea trout…this was clearly not a fluke. I’m burning with frustration at this point… I wasn’t catching anything and I was so out of shape when it came to fly casting. Justin capped the night off with a small croaker. He was thrilled and I was happy for him.
Saturday morning we arrived just in time for low tide…we’re there for 30 minutes and Justin hooks a flounder!! GRRRR! I got skunked again.
Today we practiced fly casting at the boat ramp. I really needed it since I hadn’t cast a fly rod since at least April of 2007. My arm actually hurts…that’s how rusty I am.
We thought we’d try our…Justin’s lucky fishing spot one more time. Ya you guessed it. Julie got skunked and Justin caught another trout. We didn’t really get any pictures of Justin’s fish though ha ha. The one to the left is the closest proof we have.
Guess you gotta pay your dues and I hope mine are paid.
Needless to say the only fish I caught are pictured to the left. But hey, that’s okay. It was still a nice weekend of fishing.
