Tropical Storm Hanna Heads to the Carolinas

September 4th, 2008 · No Comments

hanna Hanna Hanna bo banna… I couldn’t resist.

I’m sure most of you know that it looks like Hanna has a good chance of hitting the Carolina coast…and last time I checked most models have the storm going right toward the Wilmington, NC area.

This will be my first real tropical system experience. I drove through a tropical depression once…

If you read this blog you also know that I live in an oceanfront condo. We are on the "first floor" but the building is on stilts and we have a nice sized dune in the front of the building.

As most coastal residents this time of year, I have become obsessed with the Weather Channel, weather.com, my weather radio and this new site a friend passed on to me. It’s a weather dashboard for a Fox station in Tampa Bay. Below is the link…definitely check it out!

Hurricane and Tropical Storm Tracking

Carolina Beach has already drained the lake a little…it’s very eerie.

The Weather Channel has set up post in Wrightsville Beach and this morning WRAL and a NBC station had huge satellite trucks at the public beach access near my condo.

My main concerns:

  • My kayaks flying through the air like missiles (We will probably anchor them with tie dies sometime tonight)
  • Storm surge causing the ocean to go over the dunes
  • Tornados and water spouts that could spawn from Hanna

I’ll keep you posted on the experience. For the most up to date info on my take of the storm…check out my Twitter account.

Note: The picture above was taken in the Caribbean…not North Carolina :)
